Ponce not returning to Spain

Argentine forward Ezequiel Ponce will not be returning to Spain next season after Roma agreed a loan agreement with French club Lille.

The 20-year-old netted twice for Granada last season in 25 La Liga appearances but was one of a host of loanees to leave the club upon their relegation to the second tier.

Ponce moved to the Italian giants from Newell’s Old Boys in a €4.2m deal in 2015 but has never appeared in the first team for the club.

“I’m happy to have joined LOSC. I come with great ambition and I intend to give my all,” the forward told the French club’s website.

“I’m also delighted to be working with Marcelo Bielsa, who could Newell’s Old Boys, my first club, in the past. He’s a Coach who has proven he knows how to develop young players like me.

“I hope to progress and to score goals for the team.”
