United abandon Morata pursuit

Manchester United have ended their pursuit of Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata and have agreed a deal with Everton for Romelu Lukaku, say multiple reports.

According to the BBC and several notable British newspapers, the Red Devils have concluded a deal in the region of €80m for the Belgian striker with a move for Morata now dead in the water.

A report in Marca had suggested Jose Mourinho’s side confirmation of a deal for Spain international was a matter of time with the two club’s valuation only €5m apart, although this now appears not to be the case.

United and Los Blancos had reportedly been involved in drawn out negotiations for the 24-year-old for several weeks and reports indicate the Europa League winners patience has now run out.

An initial bid for Morata in the region of €60m was lodged, although the Spanish champions refused to budge from their initial asking price and this appears to have cost any deal to Old Trafford being processed.
