Official: Pepe joins Besiktas

Former Real Madrid defender Pepe has signed for Turkish champions Besiktas on a two-year deal, it has been confirmed.

The Black Eagles confirmed the 34-year-old would be on an annual wage of €9.5m which will be supplemented by an additional €4,000 each time he plays.

The Portugal international had reportedly been set to move to either Inter or Paris Saint-Germain but those moves were scrapped in favour of a move to Istanbul, where regular first-team football appears more likely.

"I had a number of offers from England, France and Italy, but I chose #Besiktas,” is what the club’s twitter feed quoted Pepe as stating.

Pepe won three Champions League crowns and three La Liga trophies in his decade-long stay at the Bernabeu where he joined from FC Porto in 2007.
