Spain trio in Euro U21 best XI

Dani Ceballos, Saul Niguez and Marco Asensio have been included in UEFA’s Team of the Tournament for the European Under-21 Championship.

The Real Betis midfielder was named Player of the Tournament, while the Atletico Madrid starlet won the Golden Boot for running out as top goalscorer and the Real Madrid attacker bagged the Silver Boot.

“The Betis midfielder began the group stage on the bench but grabbed his chance with both hands, displaying not only an eye for a pass but a wonderful elusiveness that takes him past opponents,” UEFA.com said of Ceballos.

For Saul, the governing body reasoned: “The Atletico Madrid man’s devastating hat-trick in the semi-final win against Italy was just one highlight of a brilliant campaign in which he won the Golden Boot.”

And with regard to Asensio, UEFA.com noted: “Saul’s treble strike against the Azzurrini was the Spanish squad’s second of the tournament after Asensio burst into the group stage with one of his own in the opening win against FYR Macedonia.”

Euro U21 Team of the Tournament: Pollersbeck (Germany); Skriniar (Slovakia), Toljan, Stark, Gerhardt (Germany); Arnold (Germany), Ceballos (Spain), Meyer (Germany), Saul (Spain); Asensio (Spain), Bernardeschi (Italy)
