Barcelona have confirmed highly-rated young midfielder Carles Alena has penned a new three-year deal at the club with a €75m release clause.
The 19-year-old had been heavily linked with a move to English club Tottenham Hotspur but he is now set to feature more in Barca’s first-team squad.
Alena’s renewal follows the exits of several high-profile La Masia talents – Jordi Mboula left for Monaco while Eric Garcia and Mateu Morey are set to join Manchester City and Bayern Munich respectively.
Handed his first team debut by former Coach Luis Enrique in last season’s Copa Del Rey, Alena scored Barca’s equaliser in a 1-1 draw at Hercules and featured in three La Liga fixtures in April.
His previous release clause was a mere €3m but after starring in Barcelona B’s promotion to La Liga 123, he has been handed a greatly improved deal.
