Diego Alves in Roma talks

Valencia goalkeeper Diego Alves is confirmed to be holding talks over a transfer to Roma, despite denials by his agency.

Promoesport took the unusual step of denying Gazzetta dello Sport’s initial claim that Roma were confident of an agreement with Valencia for Alves.

However, Marca has it on good authority that the Italian newspaper is correct, stating the Giallorossi’s interest “is real”, although they are trying to reduce Los Che’s €4m asking price.

Furthermore, the Brazilian is said to have instructed his representatives to find him a new club a month ago.

Marca adds the 32-year-old would be replaced by countryman Neto, with a deal for the Juventus No 2 “very close”.

Valencia are light on the goalkeeping front, having already lost Mathew Ryan to Brighton and Hove Albion.

Roma sporting director Monchi reportedly tried to take Alves, who has a reputation for saving penalties, to Sevilla last summer.
