Zidane makes Ronaldo plea?

Zinedine Zidane has reportedly called Cristiano Ronaldo in a desperate bid to keep the Portuguese at Real Madrid.

According to Marca, Zidane’s word “counts for a lot”, given he was the Coach that convinced Ronaldo to rest in certain games last season.

The newspaper explains “the first thing” the Frenchman, currently on holiday with his family in Italy, did was to call the No 7 and discover whether reports of his desire to leave Madrid were true.

Furthermore, the former Blancos midfielder is “confident” that the situation has merely stemmed from “the heat of the moment” and is keen to “sit down” the star once they return to Spain.

However, Marca warns Zidane is not prepared to keep Ronaldo if he discovers the No 7 does not want to play for the club, as opposed to trying to keep him against his will.

The publication adds Madrid captain Sergio Ramos has also tried to convince his teammate into staying over the phone.

Ramos appeared ready to leave Los Merengues for Manchester United two years ago but ultimately signed a new contract with the double-winners.

Ronaldo, meanwhile, failed to score in Portugal’s 2-2 Confederations Cup draw with Mexico on Sunday as he reportedly remains intent on leaving Madrid, on the grounds that he feels victimised by tax fraud allegations and unsupported by his club.
