Sampaoli unveiled by Argentina

Former Sevilla boss Jorge Sampaoli has been unveiled as Argentina’s new Coach after signing a contract until the 2022 World Cup.

Sampaoli guided Sevilla to fourth place in La Liga and the Champions League round of 16 last season, but the 57-year-old admits he is “fulfilling a dream” by sacrificing the Andalusians for the Albiceleste.

“Messi? We want the best player in the world to feel happy here,” he began.

“The important thing is that Messi has compatible players around him. I talked to him [on Wednesday] and he’s excited.

“What it means to be Argentina Coach? The fulfilling of a dream that I’ve craved for a long time. I always admired this role.

“My departure from Sevilla? There were situations that deserved the wait. I appreciate the patience of their President.

“My contract? It extends to the 2022 World Cup. Hopefully we can do something important for Argentine football. Our idea is to be closer to winning.

“Mascherano? The intention is that he plays in the same position as he does for his team.”
