Betis ‘contact’ with Ranieri

Real Betis could appoint Claudio Ranieri as their new manager if Rafael Salas is appointed president next month, according to Alfonso Perez.

Perez – who netted 67 goals across two spells at Los Verdiblancos and won 38 caps with Spain – is the prospective sporting director under a Salas presidency, when he comes up against incumbents Angel Haro and Jose Miguel Lopez Catalan on 29 June.

However, Perez told El Partidazo de Cope on Tuesday: “We have contacted Ranieri who we are very keen to bring to the club, but we believe that the current Betis setup has already agreed a deal for Quique Setien.

"We want to bring an end to the feeling of pessimism that surrounds the club and the fans, it simply must end.

“We view Dani Ceballos as non-transferable, he embodies the club and he would not be sold under any circumstances.”

The Salas campaign is under the slogan of famous Betis chant “Arriba Betis Campeon” while Haro and Catalan’s campaign is named “Ahora Betis Ahora”.
