Real Madrid vice captain Marcelo has claimed his side always knew they would advance to the final because ‘we are Madrid’.
Despite winning the first leg 3-0, Los Blancos were on the ropes in the Calderon as two quickfire goals from Atletico Madrid in the first fifteen minutes put the tie in the balance before Isco’s away goal five minutes before the break.
"In no moment did we ever start to get afraid," Marcelo claimed on BeIn Sports in the immediate aftermath of the match.
"We are Madrid. We fight for everything, always respecting the opponent. We conceded two goals at the start, but we were the better team for the rest of the game.
“It was always going to be difficult, we knew that in advance.
"Karim is a great player who has helped us with his magic."
Madrid return to La Liga action on Sunday as they host Sevilla, with a win keeping them on course for the title.
