Atletico Madrid have been dealt another defensive blow as Josema Gimenez will miss their Champions League semi-final against Real Madrid with a thigh injury.
Gimenez was forced off after a collision with Kevin-Prince Boateng during Atleti’s 5-0 win at Las Palmas on Saturday, which also resulted in the latter’s dismissal.
A medical report on Los Colchoneros’ official website has since confirmed that tests on Sunday morning showed the centre-back to have sustained “a grade-two muscle injury in his left adductor”.
Consequently, the Uruguayan will be unavailable for both legs of Atleti’s all-Madrid last-four tie in the Champions League.
He adds to a backline that is already deprived of right-backs Juanfran Torres and Sime Vrsaljko.
