Atletico Madrid central defender Jose Gimenez is keen for a summer move to Manchester United, according to reports.
Manchester Evening News states that the Uruguayan’s representatives have made it clear to the Premier League club he would be open to a move this summer, following reports in the Spanish press the Red Devils were in ‘pole position’ to sign the defender.
The report continues United were considering a bid in January for the 22-year-old – who joined Los Rojiblancos in 2013 – but they decided against any incomings until summer, when his signature is now seen as a priority.
AS reported Gimenez as having a release clause of around €45m, although the Manchester Evening News believes this is closer to €65m, but with the defender’s contract expiring in 2018 it is thought such a fee may not be necessary.
Gimenez – once viewed as the long-term successor for compatriot Diego Godin at the Vicente Calderon – has often found himself behind Stefan Savic and Lucas Hernandez in team selections this campaign, prompting rumours he will seek first-team opportunities elsewhere.
