Unzue ‘eager’ for Barca post – brother

Barcelona Assistant Coach Juan Carlos Unzue is ‘very eager’ to replace Luis Enrique in the club’s hotseat, according to his brother.

Eusebio Unzue, who is the manager of professional cycling team Movistar Team, said that despite his brother’s relatively limited experience of first-team management – one season in charge of Segunda Division side Numancia and two months at the helm of Racing Santander – he is ‘enthusiastic’ about such a challenge.

"I see my brother Juan Carlos very eager and enthusiastic to coach Barca,” Eusebio, told Cadena Cope.

"I see him able to do so and looking forward to taking on the challenge."

Meanwhile, Barca’s Sergi Roberto has become the latest player to throw his weight behind Unzue.

"Unzue’s appointment? It would be a great way of maintaining Barcelona's philosophy," Roberto told TV3.

"We, the players, have an great relationship with him. Even though he is technically in charge of strategy, he always gives us very good tips overall, he would be a great coach for Barcelona."

Gerard Pique, Andres Iniesta and Ivan Rakitic are others to have publicly backed the current number two. Earlier this month, Unzue dropped a massive hint that he considered himself to be in the running for the position which will be vacated by Enrique at the season's end.
