Sevilla ‘confident’ on Samp stay

Sevilla president Jose Castro is confident Coach Jorge Sampaoli will stay at the club despite reports linking him with a move to Barcelona.

Luis Enrique’s announcement that he was stepping down at the Camp Nou has made the Argentine the favourite amongst the bookmakers to step into the hotseat with the Blaugrana, but Castro believes Sampaoli will sign a new extended contract at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan.

"I have confidence that Sampaoli will say yes to the offer we have made him to extend his contract for one more year, but we're focused on a complicated week," Castro told Cadena Ser before the club’s Champions League second leg loss at Leicester City.

"We don't have to think about Barca or anyone else. He's grateful to Sevilla because it was the club that had faith to bring him across (from South America)."

The manager’s current deal at the club expires in the summer of 2018, while Los Rojiblancos are keen to extend that by a further season.
