Malaga have dismissed Coach Marcelo Romero after only ten matches in charge of the club, with former Sevilla boss Michel taking over.
Romero – nicknamed ‘The Cat’ – was appointed to replace the outgoing Juande Ramos in late December but has won only one of his ten games in charge of Los Boquerones, a run which has seen them slip to 15th and only seven points from the drop zone.
It had been widely reported by several Spanish media outlets including Cadena Cope, Marca and AS that Michel – most recently at Marseille – was set to be appointed as his successor, before Malaga confirmed his signature until the end of the 2017/18 campaign.
The former midfielder is most well-known for making over 400 appearances for Real Madrid before going on to manage Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid Castilla, Getafe, Sevilla, Olympiakos and most recently the Ligue 1 club.
The move brings an end to Uruguayan Romero’s long-association with the Costa del Sol club, having played for them between 2001 and 2007, then being appointed in a coaching capacity from 2014 onwards.
