Lucas Hernandez accepts “I need to be smarter and more cautious” after his domestic abuse charge but is grateful for Atletico Madrid’s “support”.
Lucas will carry out 31 days of community service after being charged for domestic violence against his ex-girlfriend, but the defender has continued to turn out for Atleti, most recently appearing in Sunday’s 3-0 win against Valencia.
“I’ve learned that I need to be smarter and more cautious in life,” he said after the game.
“I’ve felt the support of the Coach, the club, the President, the players…
“Thanks to their help, I’ve been able to carry on in the best way, and when I’ve had to play, I’ve been focused on my work and doing my best.
“Valencia? I felt good. We must go on like this as it’s the only way for us to finish as high as possible.
“Clash with Zaza? I compete at 100 percent and so does he. It was a nice battle, but we got the victory and that’s the most important thing.”
