New Deportivo La Coruna Coach Pepe Mel has called on his new players to show belief as they seek to move away from the drop zone in La Liga.
Depor are without a league win in seven and have lost four consecutive matches including Saturday’s 4-0 thumping at Leganes, a result which saw Gaizka Garitano dismissed from his role.
Under Garitano, the Galicians had won only four of their 23 league fixtures this campaign and the club now sit 17th in the table, just two points above the drop zone.
"I've come here to help and to give the confidence the players need," Mel is quoted as saying in Marca.
"They have to believe in themselves. The only way to come out of this situation is to believe in what you do.
"It was difficult to say no to Depor. I'm enthusiastic, we have good players."
Mel has been out of a job since his second spell at Real Betis came to an end in January 2016 and has previously managed Coslada, Merida, Murcia, Tenerife, Getafe, Alaves, Polideportivo Ejido, Rayo Vallecano and English side West Bromwich Albion.
