Saul Niguez revelled in a “great win” for Atletico Madrid against Bayer Leverkusen but warned “German sides never give up”.
Saul opened the scoring in style for Atleti during their 4-2 victory over Leverkusen in Tuesday’s Champions League’s last-16 leg, but while the midfielder was delighted with the result, he was not taking his team’s advantage for granted.
“It was a great win,” he was quoted as saying by UEFA’s official website after the game.
“It’s a shame they scored twice given how we were playing and we then had to suffer a bit and we bagged a fourth to give us more breathing space.
“German sides never give up, they got the first and gained confidence, but we were able to resist them and fortunately score a fourth.
“The return leg will be hard. They have no fear, nothing to lose and always make life difficult for you.”
