Prosecutor seeks Lucas jail term

Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez could be handed a seven-month jail term for “a crime of domestic abuse” following a court appearance on Monday.

The 20-year-old was arrested on Friday morning on charges of alleged domestic assault along with his girlfriend, Amelia Lorente, with both now accused of domestic violence and handed restraining orders of 500 metres, while they will not be allowed to contact each other for two years.

The public prosecutor announced the judiciary are now seeking a jail term of seven months for Lucas and six months for Lorente – who initially alerted police to the incident – for the same offence and a separate charge of damages.

Furthermore, the prosecution want the footballer to be banned from owning or carrying weapons for the next two years with Lorente facing a fine of €10 per day for the period of two months, and the matter will now be referred to a criminal court.
