Real Madrid midfielder Lucas Silva has returned to Brazilian club Cruzeiro on an 18-month loan deal, the club have confirmed.
The deep-lying midfielder moved to the Bernabeu in a €14 million deal from Cruzeiro in January 2015 but made only nine appearances for Madrid before a disappointing loan spell at Ligue 1 side Marseille.
The 23-year-old was set to join Portuguese giants Sporting CP last summer but failed a medical due to a heart complaint being detected during his medical in Lisbon, leading to concerns he may have to retire.
"Real Madrid C. F. and Cruzeiro Esporte Clube have reached an agreement for the player Lucas Silva to be loaned to the Brazilian club until 30 June 2018," a club statement said.
