Leeds swoop for Spain starlet?

Leeds United are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign Villarreal and Spain starlet Alfonso Pedraza.

According to AS, Villarreal will pay €300,000 to activate a termination clause in Pedraza’s loan at Lugo and send him to Leeds.

The newspaper adds the Whites will able to keep him permanently this summer for a fee of around €10m, providing they are promoted to the Premier League.

Despite the impending nature of his switch, the 20-year-old played in Lugo’s 1-1 draw with Real Zaragoza on Sunday as a token of his gratitude to the La Liga 2 side.

Interest in Spain came from Sporting Gijon, while Southampton and Everton had also been linked with the attacker.

Leeds were recently boosted by investment from Italian businessman Andrea Radrizzani, who helped broker Suning Group’s takeover of Inter last summer.

Pedraza, for his part, was a member of the Spain team that won the European Under-19 Championship in 2015 and is in contention to represent La Roja at the European U21 Championship later this year.

He has scored six goals and assisted a further eight in 22 second-tier appearances for Lugo in 2016-17.
