James ‘staying at Madrid’

James Rodriguez will reportedly stay at Real Madrid this month after positive talks with Zinedine Zidane.

According to Marca, the case is closed after Zidane took James to one side in training and assured the midfielder that “I’m counting on you”, although the Coach refused to make any promises of first-team football.

For the Colombian’s part, he is not thought to be annoyed by Zidane’s stance but rather “convinced” that he can work his way into the Madrid XI.

James suggested he was thinking of leaving Los Blancos after their Club World Cup triumph last month, but he will not be punished for those remarks.

The newspaper adds Sergio Ramos played a part in persuading James to stay put, but the hard work starts now for the 25-year-old, who has been asked by Zizou to push himself in training.
