Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak will have to undergo surgery for a shoulder injury sustained in Monday’s defeat at Villarreal, the club have confirmed.
The Slovenian shot-stopper had to be substituted in the 40th minute of the clash at El Madrigal after dislocating his shoulder and he was replaced by Miguel Angel Moya.
"Jan Oblak underwent radiology tests and an MRI which have confirmed that he is suffering from Bankart lesion in his left shoulder as a consequence of dislocation,” read an Atletico statement.
"He will have to undergo surgery in the coming days.”
There has been no confirmation of how long the 23-year-old will be out of action, but Marca and AS both report he is set to miss between three and four months.
Oblak has kept seven clean sheets in 15 starts for Los Rojiblancos this campaign and Moya – who missed ten months with a knee injury – is set to deputise in the coming months.
