Monchi agrees to Roma move

Sevilla sporting director Monchi has agreed to join Italian club AS Roma next summer and end his 16-year stay at Estadio Sanchez Pizjuan, say reports.

Gazzetta Dello Sport claim the 48-year-old met with executives from the Rome-based club in London to conclude the formalities of the move, which would see him replace the outgoing Walter Sabatini at the Giallorossi.

The former goalkeeper had made clear his intention to leave Los Rojiblancos back in June before being persuaded to stay at the club, but in October he then told Canal Sur radio of his desire to live in Rome or Paris – http://www.football-espana.net/61512/monchi-id-live-rome-or-paris.

Monchi's spell at Sevilla has brought them unprecedented success with five Europa League titles coming in the last decade including the last three in succession, two Copa Del Rey titles, a European Super Cup, a Spanish Supercopa and advancement to the Champions League knockout stages.

The sporting director is famed across Europe for his ability to buy low and sell high whilst continually maintaining and improving results on the pitch – Dani Alves, Jesus Navas, Kevin Gameiro, Grzegorz Krychowiak, Carlos Bacca and Ivan Rakitic are among his biggest successes.

Roma currently have Federico Fazio and Diego Perotti on their books, both formerly of Sevilla.
