Digne plans to become Barca legend

Lucas Digne is hopeful he will take the place of Jordi Alba in Barcelona’s starting eleven and go on to become a club legend, his agent confirmed.

Speaking in an interview with Get French Football News, Mikkel Beck spoke of the 23-year-old’s desire to nail down his place in Luis Enrique’s side – he has made 15 appearances for the Blaugrana this campaign, although that has mainly been due to Alba’s injury problems.

"In time we hope that (Digne) will take over from Alba and become a Barca legend in years to come," Digne’s agent revealed.

"That is the reason why we signed (for Barca). He respects Alba for being a great player and he has a really good relationship with him and for the moment they have shared the playing time very well.

"I think that Luis Enrique is very happy to have two left-backs who can play whenever he needs them to. At Barcelona you need two top players in every position to fight for all those titles that they are in the running for."

The full-back could face former employers PSG – whom he left this summer – as the Catalans were drawn against the French champions in the last 16 of the Champions League and Beck reveals he ‘didn’t think twice’ about the option to move.

"After having spoken with Luis Enrique, after knowing very well the project he was going into, [Digne] didn't think twice," he added.

"We went quickly and we sealed the deal and we have never looked back.

"We spoke to some other clubs as well, there were some other clubs showing interest, also some big English sides. But in the end, we decided to move quickly. When Barca came in we did the right thing."
