Monchi ‘respects’ Leicester

Sevilla Sporting Director Monchi has spoken of his respect for the achievements of the club’s Champions League opponents Leicester City.

The Europa League winners were pair with the champions of England in Monday’s draw and the 48-year-old heaped praise on their achievements and insisted they cannot be underestimated.

“Leicester are champions of England, they won their group and have had fantastic, unbelievable achievements and I respect them immensely,” Monchi told Sevilla FC radio after the draw.

“I do not know if it is a good or bad draw for us, we can’t think that way anyway, other clubs may have bigger names but to be at this stage you have to be really strong.

“From what I’ve seen Riyad Mahrez is a sensational player and is one of their stars while obviously (Claudio) Ranieri is a fantastic coach and now we have to analyse their strengths and weaknesses so we can do our best to progress.

“We are obviously very happy to be in the draw, it is what we set out to do at the start of this year and it was important after not reaching this stage for six years.”
