David Villa has ruled out a temporary return to hometown club Sporting Gijon after reports in the Spanish press linked the New York City striker to a loan move.
El Mundo Deportivo reported the Asturian side were lining up a two-month loan deal for the 35-year-old during the off-season in the MLS, but the former Valencia, Barcelona and Atletico Madrid striker ruled out a return to the club where he started his career.
"I am under contract for another year and no one has contacted me,” Villa revealed on Cadena Cope radio on Wednesday.
"It really makes no sense because the transfer window opens in Spain on 1st January and I begin preseason training with New York City FC on 21st January.
"I will go to Spain on 16th December for the holidays but will return to New York on 8th January because my children have to go back to school."
Villa netted 41 times in 85 appearances for Sporting before joining Zaragoza in 2003 and was named Major League Soccer's MVP for the season on Tuesday.
