Stars rested ahead of El Clasico

Barcelona and Real Madrid will both rest a host of star names for Copa Del Rey fixtures tonight as they prepare for Saturday's El Clasico showdown.

Barca have included five B-team players in their 16-man squad for their trip to Hercules as Carles Alena, Alex Carbonell, Nili, Borja Lopez and Marc Cardona all look set to feature.

Samuel Umtiti and Arda Turan will play a part for Luis Enrique’s side after absences with fringe players such as Paco Alcacer, Jasper Cillessen or Lucas Digne all expected to play, with Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez, Neymar, Ivan Rakitic, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Sergio Busquets, Jordi Alba, Gerard Pique and Jeremy Mathieu among those left out.

Andres Iniesta will also play no part for Luis Enrique’s side due to suspension, although it is hoped he will have regained fitness for the match against Madrid.

Zinedine Zidane will give Keylor Navas, Sergio Ramos, Marcelo, Luka Modric, Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo the night off for his side’s match against Cultural Leonesa, who they lead 7-1 on aggregate.

Los Blancos have a number of players also missing through injury – Fabio Coentrao, Danilo, Toni Kroos, Alvaro Morata and Gareth Bale all miss out.
