Sergio Ramos insists Fabio Coentrao is not to blame for the difficult nature of Real Madrid’s win at Sporting CP, despite the left-back’s bizarre handball.
Coentrao conceded Sporting’s equaliser for 1-1 just minutes after he replaced Marcelo in the second half, keeping his hands in the air from a previous appeal, but Ramos made it clear the Portuguese was no scapegoat.
“They were a complicated team to face, but we already know how difficult each match is in the Champions League,” the defender said after the game.
“We were unable to score the second goal earlier, but in the end, although we suffered, we went back on top.
“Different performance to the Derbi? There were many circumstances that made us play differently, but we got the three points.
“Coentrao? I’ll never blame any of my teammates. Our mistakes are collective and we’ll keep working.
“Dortmund? We want to finish top of the group, but we know that we’ll face a very tough opponent in Borussia. Now we’re thinking about the League again.”
