New Valencia signing Ezequiel Garay reportedly rejected an opportunity to join Chelsea to push through his move to the Mestalla.
Garay's deal to Valencia from Zenit Saint Petersburg was announced at the eleventh hour, but constant contact from Chelsea ensured that the deal went to the wire, insist Super Deporte.
It is reported that Chelsea came in with a late offer of 30 million euros for the Argentine defender, far in excess of the 20 million that had been agreed between Zenit and Valencia.
However, the 29-year-old had his heart set on a move to Los Che and the deal was agreed following a loan move for fellow central defender Eliaquim Mangala from Manchester City.
Garay previously had spells in Spain with Racing Santander and Real Madrid.
