Lionel Messi has picked up a thigh injury but will still join up with Argentina’s squad for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The 29-year-old was experiencing ‘some pain in his left adductor’ following Barcelona’s 1-0 victory over Athletic on Sunday evening.
He reported to Barca’s Ciutat Sportiva on Monday for further examination before being given the all-clear by his club to travel to South America.
However, Argentina have been advised that Messi should not feature in the matches against Uruguay and Venezuela should the problem worsen.
Messi is said to be keen to ensure he does take part, with the games being the first for his country since his decision to reverse his international retirement following Argentina’s Copa America final defeat to Chile.
