Didier Deschamps admits it is still “not the right time” for Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema to return to the France squad.
Benzema has spent the past four months banished from the France set-up, his involvement in an alleged blackmail plot forcing him to miss Euro 2016, and Deschamps was unable to shed any light on when the forward would be made available for selection again.
“To be honest, if he had been available today, I wouldn’t have called him up because it’s not the [right] time for him to return,” the Coach said at a Press conference, Marca reports.
“[On Benzema’s racism claim], he said certain things that were out of place, but this has happened with others [before him] and it didn’t prevent them from being picked again.”
