‘Alcacer or no-one for Barca’

Robert Fernandez admits “it’s Paco Alcacer or no-one” for Barcelona but is “optimistic” that a deal for the Valencia striker will be done before August 31.

Robert was speaking at Jasper Cillessen’s official unveiling on Friday, where he was heavily pressed on whether Barca’s pursuit of Alcacer was nearing a successful conclusion, plus why the Catalans appeared to offer little resistance in Claudio Bravo’s move to Manchester City.

“Until the 31st, the market is open the market and we must wait,” the technical secretary explained.

“It’s true that we’re interested [in Alcacer], but I can’t say any more than that.

“We have time and there are still [five] days left. I’m optimistic and we’ll exhaust all possibilities until the last day.

“We also know that if it’s not Alcacer then we won’t sign another striker. It’s him or no-one.

“[On Bravo], we never wanted him to leave and we tried to keep him here.

“We were delighted with him, but the situation changed when he asked to leave.

“We considered it because we were in a situation of risk and he could negotiate with any [other club] next year.”
