Iker Muniain believes Athletic Bilbao can target a Champions League place this season and welcomes Aymeric Laporte’s contract renewal.
Laporte re-signed at San Mames over the summer after rejecting Manchester City, and Muniain is happy the centre-back has stayed and says the summer has been a positive one for the club.
“It was a very important renewal, great news that he’s staying with us. We’re thankful for the effort he has put in,” Muniain told reporters, according to AS.
“The team feels pretty good. We haven’t won games in pre-season but the work has been good. The Coach is happy, as are the players. In principle, the goal is Europe. Hopefully we can aim for the Champions League. We’ll try to fight for it.”
