Report: James can leave Madrid

Midfielder James Rodriguez has been told to find another club by the Real Madrid hierarchy, according to a report in Marca.

The Colombian’s immediate future was already in the balance at the Santiago Bernabeu, but it now appears that boss Zinedine Zidane has run out of patience with the player and his position within the club is almost untenable.

As a result, Los Blancos have instructed his agent Jorge Mendes to start considering other options for his client as they look to recoup some of the €75m they paid Monaco for him in summer 2014.

Despite him wanting to remain at the club, an unconvincing pre-season has done nothing to help James’ cause as he has slipped further down the pecking order and Lucas Vazquez, Marco Asensio and Isco are all understood to be ahead of him in Zidane’s plans.

James arrived in Madrid amid great fanfare after excelling at the 2014 World Cup and showed flashes of his brilliance and creativity in his first season.

However, he has since fallen out of favour, firstly with former Coach Rafa Benitez and then Zidane, while the emergence of Asensio over the summer has further limited his opportunities.
