PSG boss Emery wins Ligue 1 debut

Unai Emery tasted victory on his Ligue 1 debut as Paris Saint-Germain needed a second-half goal to beat Bastia 1-0 on Friday.

PSG new boy Jese Rodriguez played a key role in the win as his one-on-one effort with Bastia goalkeeper Jean-Louis Leca rebounded in front of Layvin Kurzawa, who struck the ball first time and into an empty net.

“I thought the match was difficult, perhaps we could’ve had more possession,” the Coach said after the game.

“We couldn’t destabilise a team like Bastia, but we improved our use of the ball in the second half.

“Little by little and with patience, the team did what I wanted as we improved and scored the first goal, which is most difficult one to get.

“We mustn’t forget that it is the most difficult to get, so I’m happy for the game.

“With this win, we’ve gained confidence. I’m very happy.”
