Zinedine Zidane has wished Paul Pogba “all the best” at Manchester United after reiterating his faith in the current Real Madrid squad.
Madrid have yet to make a major signing this summer, Alvaro Morata’s return from Juventus aside, as they lost Pogba to United for a world-record €104m, but Zidane stressed he was not bitter about seeing his fellow Frenchman head elsewhere for such a fee.
“[On Pogba], it is what it is on the issue of price. We have a lot of players and I won’t say that I’ll ask for others,“ the Coach said at a Press conference ahead of Tuesday’s European Super Cup against Sevilla.
“I don’t know how we’re going to play everyone, but it’s the Coach’s problem. Everyone who stays will be important. Anything can happen.
“I’m not thinking about anything [related to Pogba]. He’s now a United player and that’s it. I wish him all the best and nothing else.
“[Martin Odegaard] is with us, spent preseason with the first team and I’m happy with him.
“Now we’ll make a decision, although it’s especially up to him. Anything can happen until [August] 31.
“The idea I have for him is that he plays a bit, but it’s very complicated for him at Madrid because we have many players. That’s my advice.
“Juventus was important for [Alvaro Morata] as it was for me. It’s a place to grow, and I think he’s grown a lot.
“He’s returned home, working hard and listening. He’s ready for the new season, which will be very tough.
“I’m very happy with the squad I have. [What I say] doesn’t mean nothing. What we need to do this season is to show that we’re prepared for what lies ahead.
“The first game is [against Sevilla], and the objective is to do everything we possibly can so we don’t have any regrets later. We must try to work from the first minute.”
