Ramos: Last season is forgotten

Sergio Ramos claims he has forgotten about last season’s Champions League triumph as the Real Madrid defender looks forward to the new campaign.

Ramos captained Madrid to victory over arch-rivals Atletico in the Champions League final three months ago, but he is more concerned about avoiding the injury problems that plagued him last term as opposed to reflecting on La Undecima.

“Whenever I play against Sevilla, it’s a special game. They [and Madrid] are the two teams of my life and that won’t change,” the stopper said at a Press conference ahead of Tuesday’s European Super Cup against his hometown club Sevilla.

“Still, my responsibility is to defend for Madrid and I’ll do everything possible so that the trophy comes to the capital.

“It’s always great to be in a final. It’s a prize for our work last season and I’m optimistic.

“I try to forget what I’ve won before and aspire to win everything every season, I reset [myself] and it goes on like that.

“I keep my hunger intact, and hopefully we can win this trophy for the fans.

“Personal and objectives collective go hand in hand, and we must give our highest level from the outset.

“Madrid’s DNA compels us to fight for all trophies and, individually, give our best from the start of the season.

“It’s never too early to play a final, we must always be prepared. We had a great preseason. We’re missing some important players, but we’re delighted with the great squad we have, and someone or another will come forward.

“There are young lads who’ve come up from the youth teams and are raring to go. Of course we’re prepared for this final.

“Of Jese, I can speak as his teammate. We can’t make decisions [like Jese’s to join Paris Saint-Germain] for other players.

“I have a great affection for him and always tried to give him the best advice. He had some very good matches for us, but this is football.

“We’ll always wish him the best. Football takes many turns and has opened the gates of Madrid, who knows what can happen. "

“There’s been a lot of emphasis on the physical side [in training recently], and we’re are very pleased with the Italian [fitness coach Antonio Pintus].

“On a personal level, hopefully injuries will respect me this season and that I can play more than I did last season.”
