Bauza ‘optimistic’ for Messi return

New Argentina Coach Edgardo Bauza is ‘optimistic’ Barcelona forward Lionel Messi will reverse his international retirement.

Messi quit the national team after Argentina lost in the Copa America Final, Messi missing a penalty in the shootout against Chile, but Bauza, confirmed as Tata Martino’s replacement, is confident of getting the attacker back in the set-up.

“I’m optimistic with Messi. Hopefully the chat I’ll have with him will help for him continuing with the national team. I would like to explain to him what my idea is. What worries me less is his place on the field,” Argentine publication La Nacional reports Bauza telling Fox Sports.

“I haven’t had any contact with Messi or his family. The idea is to go and speak with him. I don’t have to convince him of anything. The idea is to talk football.”
