Barca ‘perfect’ for new boy Digne

Lucas Digne says Barcelona is the “perfect place for me to progress” as a player after completing his €16.5m switch from Paris Saint-Germain.

Digne joined Barca on a five-year contract on Wednesday to provide competition for Jordi Albi at left-back, and the former Roma loanee insists his style of play is ideally suited to the demands of what lies ahead at Camp Nou.

“I hope to be here for many years. It’s the perfect place for me to progress, and I’m happy about serving the best club in the world,” he said at his official presentation 24 hours later.

“I have a style of play that corresponds with Barca’s. I fit well in the idea of attacking a lot and recovering the ball high up the pitch. It’s the perfect style.

“My style of play is very attacking. I like to attack, but I know that a modern full-back must also defend and I’ve improved a lot in that aspect.

“Playing with all these stars will allow me to develop a lot. There are great players at all the big clubs, and I’ve become more mature and come here from a good season with Roma.

“I’m young and I want to improve and work every day to reach the very top. I’ll train all I can to prove that when the Coach needs me, I’ll be there.

“I spoke to Jeremy [Mathieu] when [Barca’s] interest wasn’t firm. I wanted to know how things worked at the club, and then I spoke to Samuel [Umtiti] and Robert [Fernandez].

“I felt the interest of the club, and it’s hard to say no to Barca.”
