Barcelona President Josep Maria Bartomeu has confessed that Brazilian starlet Gabriel Jesus “is a great player” and “different from the others”.
Barca are one of the teams credited with an interest in Gabriel Jesus, who will represent Brazil at the Olympic Games next month, and Bartomeu made no secret of his admiration for the Palmeiras forward.
“I’ve seen him play for Palmeiras five times this year and he’s a great player,” he said at a three-hour Press conference on Thursday.
“I’m not saying if we’re trying to sign him or not. If we were then announcing it could harm negotiations, and if we weren’t then it may seem that we were rejecting him, but that’s not the case.
“If you’ve seen him play, you’d have seen that he’s different from other players.”
Responding to Bartomeu’s praise, Gabriel Jesus told Globoesporte: “I’m happy with what’s happening, but I want more, I have goals and I want to meet them.
“I’m very young and I have to be focused on what I’m doing. I’m very well supported by my family, professionals who advise me and my teammates.
“I’m only thinking about playing, doing the best I can and helping Palmeiras win.”
