Man Utd ‘want Neymar at all costs’

Manchester United reportedly made another attempt to stop Neymar renewing his contract at Barcelona and want him ‘at all costs.’

Mundo Deportivo claims the Premier League club sees Neymar as part of Jose Mourinho’s new project at Old Trafford but with the Brazil forward about to sign fresh terms with Barca, United on Wednesday launched a new offensive to convince him his future could be elsewhere.

The Red Devils would have to pay Neymar’s contract release clause of €192m as Barca have made clear they wouldn’t sell voluntarily, and the total fee it would take to get Neymar would be significantly higher once tax on the €192m was taken into account.

United are hoping they can prevent Neymar signing a new contract that raises his clause even higher but Barca have Neymar’s word that he’ll renew and they trust it, two club employees – Raul Sanllehi and Andre Cury – having been in Brazil to negotiate with the player, his father and other representatives.

There was also interest from Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Manchester City but with Neymar Sr telling Brazil’s Globoesporte that ‘any transfer has to go through Barca because my son has a contract,’ and Barca rejecting all offers, Neymar’s future appears to be in Catalonia.

The parties are finalising the terms of the contract and lawyers are going through it line-by-line to ensure everything is legally sound, as no one wants a repeat of the tax evasion allegations that have dogged club, player and agents.

Neymar’s new contract could come into force on July 1, Friday of this week, as it is the first day of the new 2016-17 season, and moves Barca out of the accounting constraints of the 2015-16 campaign.
