Neymar ‘tells Barca he wants to stay’

Neymar has reportedly told Barcelona he wants to stay at Camp Nou as the final details of his new contract are discussed.

There has been speculation that the Brazil forward would try to take one of the more lucrative offers tabled by Paris Saint-Germain rather than renew with the Catalans, but Mundo Deportivo reports Neymar communicated his desire to remain as the parties were finalising the terms of the agreement.

Neymar could have received almost double his wages if he had gone to PSG but is reportedly content playing with friends Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez and will overlook the Ligue 1 champions as well as Manchester United and Real Madrid, who were also watching closely.

Some of the economic minutiae needs to be clarified and Barca director Raul Sanllehi is still in Brazil and has been since June 16 and will be for the next few days as he attempts to square the requests of Neymar’s father regarding his son’s contract.

Barca were appreciative of the comments Neymar Sr made that distanced the player from Los Blancos – Mundo Deportivo saying President Josep Maria Bartomeu breathed a sigh of relief upon reading them – and the club understand Neymar Sr’s position as he pushes for the best deal for his son.

Bartomeu hopes to be able to announce Neymar’s renewal on June 30 at a Press conference but it’s not yet known if that is possible, though talks are at the moment smooth and a resolution acceptable to all sides is expected.
