Moyes ‘wanted Kroos at Man Utd’

Former Real Sociedad boss David Moyes has revealed that he tried to sign Toni Kroos for Manchester United before he joined Real Madrid.

Kroos was heavily linked with United a year prior to his switch to Madrid in 2014, and Moyes – the Red Devils’ manager at the time – corroborated those claims as he felt the midfielder would have made the ideal “heir” to Paul Scholes.

“I wanted to bring Kroos to Manchester United from Bayern,” the Scot told the Times.

“I thought his range of passing and his ability to play people in would have made him a top United player, maybe Scholes’ heir.

“He’s gone on and shown at Real Madrid what a fantastic footballer he is.

“Kroos is a special talent, probably the closest thing at this tournament to a Xabi Alonso, an Andrea Pirlo or Paul Scholes.”
