Barca ‘standing firm’ on Neymar

Barcelona have told Neymar they won’t up the wages contained in his new contract and the ball is now in his court as to what happens next.

Mundo Deportivo reports director Raul Sanllehi has been in Brazil to speak with the forward and his father and there is nothing else left to say, as every facet of the renewal has been discussed. President Josep Maria Bartomeu has also been in contact with Sanllehi and Neymar.

Barca haven’t given Neymar an ultimatum, the report stresses, but there’s not going to be any changes in the club’s offer and Neymar has to either take it or ask to leave – and will only go if his €190m clause is met.

Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester United are in the running and both could not only meet the clause but pay Neymar significantly more than he will earn at Barca, who are offering €15m-a-year for six years.

PSG will go to €25m-a-year and it’s expected United would also beat Barca’s offer as their economic effort is described as ‘huge.’

Barca want to maintain harmony in the locker room and a balanced wage structure and so Neymar will be put ahead of every player bar Lionel Messi in terms of what he is paid, and ‘under no circumstances’ will he be better rewarded than the Argentine.

The club also want to end what is seen as ‘confusion’ among the fans as to why Neymar’s renewal hasn’t yet been signed as everything appeared settled, and don’t want the player to fall out of favour with the supporters.
