Alvaro Morata has revealed how difficult he found it at Juventus over the last season, while confirming his future ‘doesn’t depend on me’.
The Spain international striker seems almost certain to return to Real Madrid this summer, courtesy of a buy-back clause set at €30m, and the 23-year-old discussed his personal issues in an interview with Marca.
“It was tough this year going three months without a single goal and it was a very difficult time for me a whole lot of reasons,” said Morata.
“I’d split up from my girlfriend, my family had some problems and I was carrying an injury that most people didn’t know about, an inflammation of the groin.
“Anyone who has had it knows it’s among the most troublesome things you can have. It’s really painful and prevents you from shooting and crossing.
“There were games when I needed to inject an anti-inflammatory directly into my pelvis so I could play.
“Gigi Buffon told me that when we are unhappy the best thing to do is shut yourself in at home and cry. However, you mustn’t show any weakness because people will attempt to undermine you.
“You’ve always got to keep your chin up and show the feeling that everything is fine and nothing can touch you.”
Morata was reluctant to talk about his proposed move back to the Spanish capital and instead says he is focusing on Euro 2016.
“The only thing on my mind right now is the Euros. I’ve worked hard and overcome many difficult moments in the past to be here. Now all I’m interested in is working hard and trying to win.
“I want to play, to feel happy and important, and we’ll see what happens later. Staying at Juve or going to Real Madrid is something that doesn’t depend on me. My ambition is to keep winning trophies,” he concluded.
