Douglas rejects Cruzeiro offer

Barcelona right-back Douglas has turned down the chance of a return to Brazil with Cruzeiro, reports SPORT.

Although the Catalans have reached an agreement to sell 60 per cent of the defender’s rights to Cruzeiro for €2m, Douglas does not want to go back to South America as he is intent on getting Spanish citizenship, which requires a three-year stay in the country.

In quotes to Fox Sports TV, Douglas’ representative Marcos Casseb disclosed that the player wants to stay in Spain, despite featuring in just three La Liga games for Barca since his €4m signing from Sao Paulo in July 2014.

The 25-year-old is aware that once he gains an EU passport his chances of joining one of Europe’s top clubs will improve dramatically if he possesses dual nationality.
