Roma ‘hours away’ from Kovacic

Roma are reportedly “hours” away from the loan signing of Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic as a deal could be closed on Wednesday.

According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Roma sporting director Walter Sabatini has travelled to Madrid to finalise a season-long for Kovacic after the Croat opted to join the Giallorossi over Juventus and Milan.

Kovacic only joined Madrid from Inter last summer at the request of Rafa Benitez, but he fell to the bottom of Los Blancos’ midfield pecking order as the Spaniard was replaced by Zinedine Zidane midway through last season.

Roma, meanwhile, have been forced to act quickly after losing Miralem Pjanic to Juve earlier in the week.
