‘Lewandowski ready for Madrid’

Former Real Madrid and Poland boss Leo Beenhakker believes Robert Lewandowski has what it takes to star for Los Blancos.

Beenhakker led Madrid to three straight La Liga titles between 1986 and 1989 and gave Lewandowski his Poland debut in 2008, and the veteran feels Los Merengues are right to be linked with the striker, whom he compared to Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

“[Lewandowski] is ready for Madrid. I don’t have doubts about that,” he told AS as part of preparations for the Corazon Classic match on Sunday.

“I met him when he was 19 and playing for Lech Poznan. He debuted for Poland under me and some Coaches criticised me for playing him a lot…

“I always said he was a special player. He’s like [Zlatan] Ibrahimovic. They score goals out of nothing. That’s his best quality.

“He’s a very mentally-strong guy. He has no arrogance and the next game is most important for him.

“He’s a great person and a true team player, but I don’t know Madrid’s plans.

“I think the people at Madrid have seen him play a lot and know him well.”
