James ‘insists on Madrid exit’

James Rodriguez wants to leave Real Madrid this summer after growing unhappy with a lack of playing time in the latter part of the season, it’s reported.

Marca says that despite James’ agent, Jorge Mendes, telling the Colombia international a few weeks ago that no one at Santiago Bernabeu wanted him to leave, James has made it clear prior to the Copa America that he wants to play more regularly, and can’t be guaranteed that at Los Blancos.

James didn’t get on the pitch in the Champions League Final and that is said to have been the final straw regarding his Madrid future, though he did say immediately after the match that he wanted to remain at the club.

The Madrid hierarchy’s position over his future hasn’t changed, however, but they’re also said to accept that they can’t keep a player at the club against his will, and it’s acknowledged that James has fallen behind Lucas Vazquez and Isco in Zinedine Zidane’s thoughts.

For the moment the relationship between club and player remains cordial and even though he wants to leave, there’s not been any public statement of unhappiness or unrest.
